Ten Reasons to Oppose Gay Marriage

11 May

H/T to Nothing to See Here

1.  Being gay is not natural. This is the same reason we True Americans also oppose marriage for anybody who dyes their hair, changes their boob size, or shaves any portion of their body.

2. Gay marriage will encourage straight people to be gay, just exactly the way being surrounded by married and unmarried straight people has caused so many gays to become straight…

3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4. Marriage is a sacred institution which shouldn’t be changed. Just ignore the facts that women used to be property, blacks used to be unable to marry whites, and divorce used to be illegal.

5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6. The purpose of marriage is to produce children. In the future we shall require all marriage applicants to sign a legally binding contract that forces them to have children without resorting to adoption or artificial insemination. Gays, infertile people, and the intentionally child-free will all be banned from marriage.

7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. We should trash the First Amendment to the Constitution and ram our religion down everybody’s throat by force of law. Because God wants people to be fearful and resentful of Him.

9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children. I forget why we ever legalized divorce in the first place.

10.Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to inter-racial marriage, cars, dual-income households, etc.

Governor Gregoire: Yes to Marriage Equality

5 Jan

This is a powerful statement by Governor Gregoire of Washington State in support of marriage equality.

Born Again Christians Get New DNA?

16 Jun

That’s not really such a big surprise.  Such occurrences were commonplace here in Oklahoma.   Just google for Joyce Gilchrist.  Her now discredited career in Oklahoma City made national news about a decade ago.

The speaker in the video is Damon Thompson who correctly assumes his audience will accept his wildly outrageous statements without question.  If such unsubstantiated tales were offered to a more sophisticated crowd he would have been properly jeered and booed off the stage.

Unsurprisingly Thompson hatred of the LGBTQ community is every bit as mind numbing stupid.

Fortunately not everyone is falling for Damon’s bullshit.  Here is a portion of what a young man named Ashton writes:

But when I heard Damon again mere months later at the same church, things had
changed. I had already begun to lose hope that the promises he had made would
ever manifest in reality and, this time, he was unable to stoke the flames and
excitement within me as he had before. Even as he made proclamations of divine
destiny, I found myself disenchanted. And then, when he started railing against
“queers,” I lost all hope that he was any better than his suit-and-tie

“Yeah, I said queer,” he reaffirmed. “It’s time we started calling sin for
what it is and stop trying to make it sound nice!”

I knew that there were people in that sanctuary that very night who were gay.
I knew that there were people there that very night who were lesbian. I knew
that there was at least one person in the church that night who hurting from

But Damon didn’t, or if he did, he didn’t seem to care. There was no love in
his heart for the ‘homosexual’ (as he otherwise called them). In some ways,
hearing preachers like him constantly talk about ‘homosexuals’ was even worse
than hearing him use the word ‘queer;’ while his enunciation of the word ‘queer’
truly dripped with disgust and revulsion, ‘homosexual’ just sounded cold.
Scientific. Devoid of humanity.

And that’s exactly how preachers like Damon make gay youth feel — less than

I left the service that night with a far different opinion of Damon than I
had held before.

The above quote from Ashton Elijah, a journalism student, is a brilliant and revealing post which is worth reading in its entirety.

In the meantime I dedicate the following picture to Damon Thompson and his fans:

5000 Year Old “Gay” Skelatal Remains Found?

6 Apr

The skelaton found in the Czech Republic dates to 2.900-2,500 BCE.  The alignment of the body plus the artifacts imply the remains are that of a gay male.

During that period, men were traditionally buried lying on their right side with the head pointing towards the west; women on their left side with the head facing east.

In this case, the man was on his left side with his head facing west. Another clue is that men tended to be interred with weapons, hammers and flint knives as well as several portions of food and drink to accompany them to the other side.

Women would be buried with necklaces made from teeth, pets, and copper earrings, as well as domestic jugs and an egg-shaped pot placed near the feet.

If the remains are that of a gay male and considering the care taken by those performing the burial this could also suggest that gay people in this culture were treated with the same respect afforded to straight members of the community.

Regulate Homosexuality

5 Nov

Exactly what do they intend when spouting off terms as “regulating homosexuality.”  Do I need a license?  Or approach the city for a zoning ordance change?   Wear a pink triangle?

Why don’t people like Barton and the other right wing Christians explain their real intentions?  We are talking about making it a crime for me and others in the LGBTQ community to be who we are.  For all the gay and lesbian people who voted Republican this year you are fucking nuts.

Yesterday during Signorile’s program on Sirius/XM OutQ members of my community who voted Republican cited taxes as the reason for voting for the Republican Cult over their own rights.  Do they have a clue they are voting for the very people who would either toss their ass in prison or force them into a reparative therapy camp?  Lower taxes will do us a lot of good when our incomes are reduced to almost zero.  The last I checked being an inmate doesn’t pay very well.  That will be after they take all of your savings and property to pay for reparative therapy which anyone with two brain cells must realize doesn’t work.

North Caroline Elects Openly Gay State Representative

3 Nov

One afternoon about a month ago I received a phone call seeking a contribution from the campaign of a candidate for the North Carolina State House of Representatives.  I’m in Oklahoma but have donated to candidates in other areas and I suppose my name is in some database.
I was told a little about the candidate.  A bit about his background, that he’s black and openly gay.  I asked what the chances looked like and was told they looked very good.  So I agreed to make a contribution.  It wasn’t huge but lets just say a little more than chump change.
I am pleased to learn this man won a seat in the North Carolina Legislature.  Congratulations Representative Elect Marcus Brandon!
Marcus Brandon has been elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives.  He will represent the cities of Greensboro and High Point in the state legislature.Brandon will be the only openly LGBT state legislator in North Carolina, and one of just five openly LGBT African-Americans serving in state legislatures across the country (including Maryland House of Delegates candidate Mary Washington, who will also win tonight).
